1) Braves 3B Chipper Jones (hit near the wrist by a pitch) and P John Thomson (stiff back) had to leave yesterday’s game.
Jones suffered a bruise, didn’t need X-rays and is day to day. After 55 RCAA/.972 OPS and 43 RCAA/.920 OPS seasons, Jones is hitting .485 SLG, .362 OBA, .847 OPS, 11 RCAA in 137 games. He has a .937 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and 429 RCAA in 1542 games.
Thomson, was who scheduled to pitch game 2 of the NLDS, will be evaluated today. After 4.71 ERA/-1 RSAA and 4.85 ERA/4 RSAA seasons, Thomson finished with a 3.72 ERA/13 RSAA in 33 starts. He has a 4.71 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.31, and 33 RSAA (he’s spent the majority of his career in Coors) in 179 games.
2) The Phillies fired manager Larry Bowa. Bench coach Gary Varsho managed yesterday and will do it again today.
3) The Marlins gave manager Jack McKeon a 1 year contract extension, for 2005.
4) Mariners C Miguel Olivo was suspended for 2 games, for making contact with an umpire on September 20. When he dropped his appeal, the suspension was cut to 1 game, and he served it yesterday.
After starting his career with -14 RCAA/.646 OPS in 2003 (he also played in 6 games in 2002), Olivo has a .441 SLG, .288 OBA, .729 OPS, -10 RCAA in 95 games (first 46 with the Whitesox).
5) Yankees manager Joe Torre was suspended for 1 game, for a throwing at hitters incident last Saturday. He served it yesterday.
6) The BlueJays fired pitching coach Gil Patterson and 1B coach Joe Breeden.
7) The Indians-Twins game had to be suspended so the Metrodome could be set up for a football game and will be resumed today.
