Around the Majors: Kendall is traded to the A’s

1) The Pirates traded C Jason Kendall to the A’s for Ps Mark Redman and Arthur Rhodes.

After 21 RCAA/.706 OPS and 21 RCAA/.815 OPS seasons, Kendall hit .390 SLG, .399 OBA, .789 OPS, 15 RCAA in 147 games. He has a .805 career OPS, compared to his league average of .775, and 114 RCAA in 1252 games.

After 4.21 ERA/-1 RSAA and 3.59 ERA/9 RSAA seasons, Redman had a 4.71 ERA/-1 RSAA in 32 starts. He has a 4.37 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.56, and 11 RSAA in 139 games.

After 2.33 ERA/14 RSAA and 4.17 ERA/1 RSAA seasons, Rhodes had a 5.12 ERA/-2 RSAA in 37 games. He has a 4.36 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.55, and 9 RSAA in 551 games.

2) The Mets met with free agent P Pedro Martinez.

3) The Pirates designated P Frank Brooks for assignment.

Brooks had a 4.67 ERA/-1 RSAA in his first 11 career games (1 start).

4) On Friday, Tom Haller died at the age of 67.

Haller was a C for the 1961-67 Giants, 1968-71 Dodgers and 1972 Tigers. He had a .753 career OPS, compared to his league average of .710, and 76 RCAA in 1294 games. Haller was also the GM of the Giants from 1981-85.
