Around the Majors: Marlins-Rangers trade rumor
1) According to reports from both Miami and Texas, the Marlins could be close to trading P Josh Beckett and 3B Mike Lowell to the Rangers for 3B Hank Blalock and a top pitching prospect, either John Danks or Thomas Diamond. The holdup to the deal is the Rangers reluctance to deal the prospects.
2) The Nationals signed free agent utilityman Marlon Anderson to a 2 year, $1.85 million contract.

“Lee Sinins’ Sabermetric Encyclopedia is best reason yet developed to own a computer. I think I must own a copy of every baseball encyclopedia there is or ever was, and occasionally I find that I still need to pull out one of the others, but not very often; the Sabermetric Encyclopedia covers 97% of my needs. Whether I’m working or playing, calculating or daydreaming, the Sabermetric Encyclopedia pops up to help out. I turn it on in the morning; I turn it off when the house is on fire. Otherwise, I’m using it.”–Bill James
