1) Indians P Rafael Betancourt was suspended for 10 days for violating MLB’s drug policy.

Betancourt will only pretend to be suspended, since he’s on the DL and he will “serve” the suspension while on it. And, since off days count towards the 10 day suspension, then the break would also count.

A Hardball Times Update
Goodbye for now.

2) According to the Sporting News, the Rockies have agreed to a trade that would send CF Preston Wilson to the Nationals for P Zach Day and minor league OF J.J. Davis, but that’s being held up by a failure to agree on how much salary the Nationals will assume. The report also says the Cubs could jump into the running for Wilson if the trade falls apart, with the Rangers also a possibility.

3) The Marlins placed P Josh Beckett on the 15 day DL, retroactive to Wednesday, and called up P Randy Messenger.

Beckett has a strained left oblique muscle. It’s the 9th time he’s gone on the DL in 4 years and the 2nd in 2005.
