1) The Cubs placed P Mark Prior on the 15 day DL and called up P Roberto Novoa.

The MRI on Prior showed a compression fracture near his elbow and the trainer, Prior and manager Dusty Baker all declined to speculate on how long he’ll be out.

Novoa has a 5.68 ERA/-4 RSAA in 21 career games, including a 6.23 ERA/-1 RSAA in 5 games in 2005.

2) The Cubs traded P LaTroy Hawkins to the Giants for minor league Ps Jerome Williams and David Aardsma.

After 1.86 ERA/24 RSAA and 2.63 ERA/18 RSAA seasons, Hawkins is off to a 3.32 ERA/3 RSAA start in his first 21 games. He has a 4.80 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.65, and 2 RSAA in 464 games.

After starting his career with 3.30 ERA/14 RSAA and 4.24 ERA/3 RSAA seasons, Williams is off to a 6.48 ERA/-4 RSAA start in his first 3 starts (4 games). He has a 3.93 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.30, and 13 RSAA in 47 games.

8) The Padres signed P Brian Sweeney to a minor league contract.
