10) The Rockies activated P Joe Kennedy from the DL, called up C J.D. Closser, placed C Todd Greene on the 15 day DL and designated P Travis Driskill for assignment.
After 4.53 ERA/-1 RSAA and 6.13 ERA/-24 RSAA seasons, Kennedy is off to a 3.84 ERA/17 RSAA start in his first 18 starts, in his first year in Coors. He has a 4.77 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.45, and -7 RSAA in 100 games.
Greene has a strained left hamstring. After -2 RCAA/.862 OPS and -12 RCAA/.677 OPS seasons, he’s off to a .510 SLG, .305 OBA, .815 OPS, -7 RCAA start in his first 60 games. It’s the first time in his 9 year career that he had back to back years with 60+ games and has a .718 career OPS, compared to his league average of .777, and -60 RCAA in 422 games.
Driskill has a 5.29 ERA/-18 RSAA in 54 career games, including a 6.48 ERA/-1 RSAA in 5 games in 2004.
11) The Twins sent P Aaron Fultz to the minors and called up P Matt Guerrier.
After 4.79 ERA/-5 RSAA and 5.21 ERA/-1 RSAA seasons, Fultz is off to a 4.57 ERA/1 RSAA start in his first 47 games. He has a 4.77 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.46 and -13 RSAA in 278 games.
Guerrier has a 5.40 ERA/-1 RSAA in his first 4 career games (2 starts).
12) Cardinals P Chris Carpenter had to leave yesterday’s game, due to tightness in his lower, in just the 3rd inning. He expects to be able to make his next start.
After missing the 2003 season, Carpenter is off to a 3.73 ERA/6 RSAA in his first 22 starts. He has a 4.67 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.62, and -1 RSAA in 174 games.
13) Phillies P Kevin Millwood was diagnosed with a sprained ligament and strained tendon in his elbow. He’s not expected to able to throw for 3-4 weeks and could be out for the rest of the season.
Millwood was placed on the DL on Saturday.
14) The Phillies activated P Vicente Padilla from the DL, officially added P Cory Lidle to the roster, sent P Geoff Geary to the minors and designated P Paul Abbott for assignment.
After 3.28 ERA/11 RSAA and 3.62 ERA/10 RSAA seasons, Padilla’s off to a 3.90 ERA/3 RSAA in his first 11 starts. He has a 3.64 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.27, and 27 RSAA in 158 games.
Geary has a 6.69 ERA/-10 RSAA in 26 career games, including a 7.12 ERA/-10 RSAA in 21 games in 2004.
After pitching in just 17 games in 2002-03, Abbott is off to a 6.47 ERA/-23 RSAA in 19 starts (20 games) in 2004. He had double digit negative RSAA with both the 2004 Devil Rays and Phillies, pitching in 10 games with each of them. Abbott has a 4.92 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.57, and -40 RSAA in 162 games.
15) The Orioles activated RF Jay Gibbons from the DL and designated C Ken Huckaby for assignment.
After 2 RCAA/.792 OPS and 9 RCAA/.786 OPS seasons, Gibbons is off to a .343 SLG, .289 OBA, .632 OPS, -15 RCAA start in his first 54 games. He has a .767 career OPS, compared to his league average of .763, and -5 RCAA in 423 games.
Huckaby has -26 RCAA/.556 OPS in 110 career games, including a .216 SLG, .225 OBA, .441 OPS, -6 RCAA in 16 games with the 2004 Rangers and Orioles.
16) Whitesox P Scott Schoeneweis will have arthroscopic elbow surgery, will miss at least a month and could be out for the rest of the season.
Schoeneweis was placed on the DL on August 7.
17) The Mariners called up OF Hiram Bocachica and sent P Cha Seung Baek to the minors.
After appearing on just 6 games in 2003, Bocachica is off to a .339 SLG, .314 OBA, .653 OPS, -2 RCAA start in his first 32 games. He has a .634 career OPS, compared to his league average of .770, and -16 RCAA in 204 games.
Baek pitched 1 shutout inning in his only career game.
18) The Angels activated OF Jeff DaVanon from the DL and sent C Wil Nieves to the minors.
After having 12 RCAA/.805 OPS 2003, his first year with more than 40 games, DaVanon is hitting .411 SLG, .378 OBA, .789 OPS, 9 RCAA in his first 73 games. He has a .773 career OPS, compared to his league average of .766, and 12 RCAA in 259 games.
Nieves didn’t appear in any games during this brief callup.
19) Tigers 2B Fernando Vina was diagnosed with a partial tendon tear in his left knee. A decision hasn’t been made yet on whether he needs surgery, but he will be out for the rest of the season.
Vina’s been on the DL since May 12.
20) Mariners P Eddie Guardado has a torn rotator cuff and will almost certainly need surgery that will not only end his season, but could keep him out for a good portion of 2005.
Guardado has been on the DL since August 1.
21) Mariners P Rafael Soriano will have Tommy John surgery.
Soriano has been on the DL since May 11.
22) Yankees P Javier Vazquez was scratched from today’s start, due to pink eye.
After 3.91 ERA/6 RSAA and 3.24 ERA/48 RSAA seasons, Vazquez is off to a 4.12 ERA/6 RSAA start in his first 23 starts. He has a 4.15 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.38, and 58 RSAA in 215 games.
23) Astros SS Adam Everett won’t need surgery on the broken ulna bone in his left wrist and, instead, he’ll just get a cast. Nevertheless, he’s still expected to be out for 4-6 weeks.
Everett has been on the DL since August 7.
24) The Reds activated P John Riedling from the bereavement list.
He takes Cory Lidle’s roster spot.
25) The Brewers re-signed OF Jon Nunnally to a minor league contract.
He was in their minor league system, before being released 10 days ago.
