12) Rangers P Carlos Almanzar was suspended for 10 days for violating the steroids policy.
The suspension will either start at the beginning of the 2006 season or, just like 137% of suspended players, it will be another pretend suspension. Players suspended for the steroids policy have been able to be replaced on the roster. Almanzar is recovering from Tommy John surgery. So, if he’s not ready for opening day, he can just be placed on the roster, immediately be replaced, pretend to be suspended for 10 days and then go on the DL afterwards.

I am now taking orders for the next edition of the sabermetric baseball encyclopedia. The estimated starting shipping date is October 12 and the encyclopedias will be shipped on a first come, first served basis.
The encyclopedia can be ordered at http://www.baseball-encyclopedia.com
“Lee Sinins’ Sabermetric Encyclopedia is best reason yet developed to own a computer. I think I must own a copy of every baseball encyclopedia there is or ever was, and occasionally I find that I still need to pull out one of the others, but not very often; the Sabermetric Encyclopedia covers 97% of my needs. Whether I’m working or playing, calculating or daydreaming, the Sabermetric Encyclopedia pops up to help out. I turn it on in the morning; I turn it off when the house is on fire. Otherwise, I’m using it.”–Bill James
