This morning I wrote that, while the facts are the facts when it comes to the A-Rod business, and that they will ultimately bear themselves out (or not), we should be mindful of the characterizations and judgments that accompany those facts: Which in some ways illustrates my skepticism about the book. Not about the facts […]

TUCK! toons here every week…

I’ve enjoyed Doug Glanville’s New York Times’ pieces quite a lot since he began them last season. As one of the rare ballplayers who was an intellectual without being marginalized or considered an eccentric (See, Bouton, Jim and Lee, Bill) he provides a unique view into the game. Unlike so many other retired players, he […]

MLBAM is launching its own online, opinion-based “tabloid” in May: MLB Advanced Media will formally announce today that in May it will debut what’s meant to be a online baseball newspaper featuring columnists, including NBC/MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann . . . . . . Bowman says the as-yet unnamed site will try to offer “a newspaper […]

Via BTF, here’s what may be the worst “celebrity” blog of all time. Jeff Francoeur’s. It’s obviously put together by either his P.R. people, his sponsors, or both, as evidenced by constant references to the products either he or the Braves endorse: Not only do the Braves get to play in one of the nicest […]

This has been a truly crappy couple of weeks for baseball: Longtime Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas has died at age 73. Team president David Montgomery announced the death Monday a short time after Kalas passed out in the broadcast booth before a game in Washington against the Nationals. Montogomery’s voice was cracking as he […]

OK, longtime ShysterBall reader Melody (full name: Melody Blass Fisher) would probably smack me for calling her a “girl,” but since the purpose of this post is to promote her most excellent Baseball Chronicle essay, here’s hoping she cuts me some slack. As for the story, if any of you have either (a) been ripped […]

Unsure whether or not Twitter has jumped the shark? Here’s your answer, courtesy of USA Today’s Micheal Hiestand: On its Houston-St. Louis game Saturday, Fox’s baseball coverage debuted Twittering from its announcers. Fox’s Joe Buck, in a tweet, showed how the evolving online medium can deliver true candor: “Cold in the booth in STL. Tim […]

I was pretty proud of myself for deciding to use “And that Happened” for my daily recaps, but now that I see the name of this running feature, I realize that I could have tried harder. The fact that I’m still giggling at that tells you an awful lot about my maturity level.

I’ve been passing along others’ dissatisfaction with MLB.tv for the past couple of days. My guess: things will be running smoother with live broadcasts soon simply because fewer people will be logging on at once now that the Opening Day hype is over and the season is underway. That does not explain the archiving problem […]
