Nick Johnson to Oakland?
The A’s and Nats are talking about Nick Johnson:
The Nationals and Oakland Athletics, who discussed a potential trade for first baseman Nick Johnson all the way back in November, have revived those talks in recent weeks, according to a source familiar with the discussions. At one point last week, the source said, a deal seemed very close.
Eventually every stathead crush past his prime — or beyond the point where he can ever hope to have one — comes to Oakland. And I really do mean all of them.
Next up: Mitch Meluskey.
In a pawn store:
“Uh yes, I want to trade this shiny, new coin for that taped up one that you have there.”
“Are you sure? That one is still in mint condition and will probably gain value. This one is cracked and only stays intact, with tape, for 100 days before falling apart.”
“Yes. And I want the ridiculous dreadlock wig and the poster of the guy who doesn’t like what he does for a living as well.”
At Carmi Middle School, the sixth-grade biology teacher when I was there annually tested his students on their knowledge of the human skeleton by selecting one student and inserting his name into a ridiculous story wherein he would break every bone in his body.
In other words, he had written Nick Johnson’s biography in advance.
Bring on Morgan Ensberg!
It’s like Ahab chasing after Erubiel Durazo.
Didn’t Meluskey already have his A’s cameo? I think he got invited to spring training a couple of years ago, but didn’t make the team.
