Game of the Day
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth, the Tigers scored two to tie the game and then won it in the 13th. Curtis Granderson was 4 for 6 and delivered key singles in both rallies, and the featured starting pitchers, Scott Kazmir and Justin Verlander, didn’t disappoint; Kazmir held the Tigers scoreless for the first six innings. The game was delayed going into the bottom of the ninth when the lights went out.

Yesterday’s Home Runs
The following stats are provided by Hit Tracker, which logs the projected distance of each home run (if it flew uninterrupted back to field level) and its “standard” distance, which is corrected for weather conditions. Note the difference between the two on all home runs hit in Wrigley.

THT’s Stats
As a general rule, the more patience a batter shows at the plate, the more likely he is to get a pitch to his liking or draw a walk. As you can see, the top 20 batters in pitches per plate appearance generally have high On Base Percentages, with the striking exception of Cleveland shortstop Jhonny Peralta. Peralta’s .225 batting average is to blame, though his line drive percentage (21%) hints that he’s not swinging the bat that poorly.
