We have posted individual 2005 player stats on our Stats Page. In addition to the stat we tracked last year, we’ve added a stat on home run per outfield fly for both batters and pitchers. Win Shares will be available later this month. And we are continuing to work furiously a a robust, programmed stats […]
I’m pretty psyched, as later today I’m going to see The Anibal. No, it’s not a new movie starring Jesse Ventura and the guy Drago killed. He’s Anibal Sanchez, probably the best pitching prospect you’ve never heard of. He currently pitches for the Wilmington Blue Rocks, but that’s just a temporary stop on the way […]
Graphs of each divisional race are up and running in the Teams section, in addition to the team stats. These graphs will be updated every day of the season. Hopefully.
It’s my turn to be on Brendan Mathews’s show on Wednesday evening, April 27th, at 6:40 PM Central Time, on KRMS, 1150 AM, in Osage Beach, Missouri. I understand the topic of discussion is likely to touch on LOOGYs, among other things.
There’s a new pitching stat in the Team Statistics Tables. It’s called HR/Fly, and it’s basically the number of home runs given up by each team per each flyball allowed. Research published by Ron Shandler’s Baseball Forecaster has shown that about 10% of all flyballs are hit for home runs, once you correct for ballpark. […]
I had a request to publish the major league schedule in a table format I used last year. The format shows how often each team plays each other team, and it’s grouped by league and division. We always aim to please, so here is the 2005 table.
I’ll be on the radio again tonight, with Brendan Matthews of KRMS, 6:40 central time. Brendan and I will be discussing Aaron’s article as well as other early season stats. You can listen in on the web.
On Friday morning, April 15th, THT’s Steve Treder will be appearing on Paul Sporer’s show on KVRX, 91.7 FM, on the University of Texas campus in Austin. The subject of discussion will be the ever-contested issue of Pitch Counts. Tune in to hear Steve in the hour between 9:30 and 10:30 AM Central time.
Hardball Times author Craig Burley will be appearing tonight on Dave Weekley’s show before the Reds-Cards game on 580 WCHS-AM in Charleston, West Virginia. We’ll be talking about the “Importance of Strike One” series and some of my upcoming work. We should be on the air around 7:30pm.
Mike has a list of the biggest free agent signings of all time on his site, building off the Win Shares analysis he and I have been sharing. Particularly interesting are the parallels between the last thirty years of free agency and the three years of league “jumping” from 1901-1903.
