The Mets said after Sunday’s game that David Wright would go on the disabled list with symptoms of post-concussion syndrome.
There’s not going to be anything to play for next month, so the Mets might as well play it extra, extra safe with Wright. There are no quality alternatives in the minors, so Fernando Tatis will likely act as the regular third baseman.
Nick Johnson left Sunday’s game after one inning with a hamstring injury.
Well, this was long overdue. Johnson had started 104 games this year and hadn’t suffered a legitimate injury until now. The Marlins moved Ross Gload to first base to replace him today and put Jeremy Hermida in left field. If Johnson goes on the DL, either Jorge Cantu will move back to first, opening up playing time for Emilio Bonifacio, or Gaby Sanchez could be given an opportunity at the position.
Angels activated outfielder Torii Hunter from the 15-day disabled list.
Reggie Willits was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday night in order to clear roster space. Hunter will make his triumphant return Sunday afternoon against Orioles right-hander Jeremy Guthrie. The outfielder has hit .305 with 17 home runs and 65 RBI in 77 games with the Halos this season.
Brandon Phillips was scratched from Sunday’s lineup with a sore left hand.
Drew Sutton will fill in at second base for one game. Phillips should be back in the lineup Tuesday when the Reds begin a series at home against the Giants. He was hit on the hand with a pitch during Saturday’s loss.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called “sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each “up” bar is a victory and a “down” bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. “PWins” is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
