When will it end?
As anyone who has read this blog for a long time knows, I am firmly against Kevin Costnerly-funded stadiums, but people continue to be suckered into such deals over and over again.

Ah, but will it be a Bull Durham-esque hit or a For the Love of the Game-esque failure? Also, will there be corn in the outfield? I’d like for the players to have to walk through corn to get to the field from the clubhouses.

Kevin Costnerly-funded stadiums? Is this a trend I’m missing, Craig?
As someone who lives only an hour or so away from where the stadium will be, I’m actually excited about this. I imagine a game or two down there would be fun, especially Opening Day, when you just know Kevin Costner & Modern West will play a show. Not that there’s a shortage of good independent baseball around these parts, especially considering Madison Mallards are only 70 miles away (and, boy, do they put on a good show).
Of course, I’m probably a bigger Costner fan than I should be, and I actually enjoyed myself at the (free) Modern West show I went to (winning $100 on the slots while waiting in line didn’t hurt either), so I may not be the best person to ask.

Surely “Costnerish” is a better appelation? It also has nice resonance with “squishy” which is what the numbers always are.
“I’d like for the players to have to walk through corn to get to the field from the clubhouses.”
That would be so awesome!
Interestingly the press release mentions that it will be “minutes” from Six Flags and whatnot, which of course is in Gurnee, not Zion. I know because I live in Gurnee and can see Six Flags from my driveway (the tall bits anyway) and I’m sure you’re all very happy for me.
I’ll probably take my kids to a game, but only if we can be sure Costner won’t be there.
