Around the Majors: Delgado rumor

1) According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Mariners are the frontrunners for free agent 1B Carlos Delgado, while they are also interested in free agents 1B Richie Sexson and 3B Troy Glaus. But, instead of Sexson being a backup plan, they are interested in both 1Bs.

2) The Indians signed utilityman Jeff Liefer and OF Andy Abad to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.

Liefer has -32 RCAA/.693 OPS in 269 career games, including a .393 SLG, .258 OBA, .651 OPS, -3 RCAA in 16 games with the 2004 Brewers.

3) The Cardinals released 2B Marlon Anderson and P Jason Simontacchi.

After -10 RCAA/.696 OPS and -6 RCAA/.703 OPS seasons, Anderson hit .379 SLG, .269 OBA, .649 OPS, -14 RCAA in 113 games. He has a .693 career OPS, compared to his league average of .776, and -74 RCAA in 737 games.

After starting his career with 4.02 ERA/-2 RSAA and 5.56 ERA/-20 RSAA seasons, Simontacchi had a 5.28 ERA/-2 RSAA in 13 games. He has a 4.77 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.20, and -24 RSAA in 83 games.
