After a 4.03 ERA/18 RSAA in his first full year in the rotation, Arroyo is off to a 4.01 ERA/2 RSAA start in his first 4 starts. He has a 4.59 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.52, and 4 RSAA in 95 games.

After 44 RCAA/.975 OPS and 7 RCAA/.887 OPS seasons, Nixon is hitting .415 SLG, .417 OBA, .832 OPS, 3 RCAA in his first 20 games. He has a .863 career OPS, compared to his league average of .771, and 108 RCAA in 764 games.

Brazelton has a 5.37 ERA/-23 RSAA in 39 career games, including a 5.53 ERA/-4 RSAA in 5 starts in 2005.

After 4.33 ERA/2 RSAA and 3.47 ERA/9 RSAA seasons, Carter is off to a 7.50 ERA/-4 RSAA start in his first 8 games. He has a 3.88 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.56, and 14 RSAA in 140 games.

8) Dodgers P Eric Gagne was suspended for 2 games for sitting in the dugout and heckling an umpire on April 6.

According to the rules, “players on the disabled list … may not take part in any activity during the game such as warming up a pitcher, bench jockeying, etc.” By MLB’s own admission, the rules are nothing more than worthless scraps of paper to be disregarded when they feel like, only enforced when they are mood. If there’s any rules that deserve to be overlooked, this has to be one of them.

Gagne will have to serve the DL after he comes off the DL. So, the Dodgers just need to figure out when he’s really going to be ready, take him off the DL 2 days earlier and let him just pretend that the next 2 games are a suspension.

After 1.97 ERA/16 RSAA and 1.20 ERA/26 RSAA seasons, Gagne had a 2.19 ERA/18 RSAA in 70 games and has been on the DL all season. He has a 3.29 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.37, and 44 RSAA in 282 games.

1) Cubs P Greg Maddux’s line–6 IP, 7 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 3 SO.

After 3.96 ERA/5 RSAA and 4.02 ERA/13 RSAA seasons, Maddux is off to a 4.20 ERA/1 RSAA start in his first 5 starts. He has a 2.96 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.06, and 554 RSAA in 613 games.

2) Astros P Roger Clemens’s line–7 IP, 7 H, 3 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 SO.

After 3.91 ERA/10 RSAA and 2.98 ERA/32 RSAA seasons, Clemens is off to a 1.03 ERA/12 RSAA start in his first 5 starts. He has a 3.16 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.38, and 657 RSAA in 645 games. Clemens is now 11 behind Lefty Grove’s modern major league record for career RSAA.

3) Cubs RF Jeromy Burnitz had 3 hits, including a HR.

4) Padres SS Geoff Blum had to leave yesterday’s game, due to a bruised chest, after colliding with LF Ryan Klesko.

After -23 RCAA/.674 OPS and -20 RCAA/.614 OPS seasons, Blum is hitting .458 SLG, .328 OBA, .786 OPS, 1 RCAA in his first 21 games. He has a .717 career OPS, compared to his league average of .778, and -67 RCAA in 703 games.

5) The Brewers placed P Ben Sheets on the 15 day DL, retroactive to April 21, and called up P Julio Santana.

Sheets has inflammation of the inner ear.

Santana, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2002, has a 5.33 ERA/-32 RSAA in 161 career games.

6) Astros SS Adam Everett and P Brad Lidge missed yesterday’s game, due to flulike symptoms.

After -13 RCAA/.700 OPS and -11 RCAA/.703 OPS seasons, Everett is off to a .366 SLG, .329 OBA, .695 OPS, -2 RCAA start in his first 19 games. He has a .682 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and -34 RCAA in 300 games.

After 3.60 ERA/8 RSAA and 1.90 ERA/26 RSAA seasons, Lidge is off to a 0.93 ERA/4 RSAA start in his first 10 games. He has a 2.77 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.29, and 36 RSAA in 174 games.
