Jim Leyritz continues to impress

Beautiful:

Former major leaguer Jim Leyritz was arrested Thursday in South Florida on charges of domestic battery against his ex-wife, just two months before his trial on a DUI manslaughter charge was set to begin.

Leyritz, 45, was arrested at his home in Davie, a Fort Lauderdale suburb, a police report said. He was being held in the Broward County Jail.

Leyritz’s ex-wife, Karrie, gave conflicting reports of what happened, according to a police officer who responded to a domestic disturbance at the house. She first told police they were arguing over child support when he struck her twice in the face and pushed her to the ground for writing a check without his permission. She later said her ex-husband dragged her out of bed and pushed her against the wall.

This would be the ex-wife who, according to Leyritz’s weepy interview last month, “moved back in to help with expenses and the kids” when he was in desperate straits following the fatal accident.

You’re welcome, jackass.

UPDATE: Yes, I note the conflicting reports, and I also note that the article itself says that Leyritz told police that his ex-wife was drunk and hurt herself to retaliate for him trying to evict her. I have no idea what actually happened, but (a) it was apparently ugly either way; and (b) I’ve been calling Leyrtiz a jackass since October 1996 and I have no plans of stopping now.

This stuff belongs in and sounds as if it was written for the Smoking Gun, not here. Nothing to do with baseball. What a colossal waste of time, energy and what appears to be a smattering of intellect.

Of course, the website could be renamed the LowballTimes to suit the “social” commentary.

John, I’d suspect that focusing on baseball and pretending that nothing outside of that world exists is the sort of thing that leads to a lot of ballplayers’ problems.  Would that we don’t similarly pretend.

Regardles, this is a baseball news blog, and when a former baseball player is involved in things that could cause him to spend decades in prison, that’s baseball news.  If this comes as a shock to you, it means that you haven’t been reading this site very long.

I also take issue with the quality of content on your so-called blog. So I can perhaps lead a few lucky souls away from your wanton acts of bloggery, I will now criticize every time you reference Batman or the Watchmen.

Criticize me? A live body and a dead body contain the same number of particles. Structurally, there’s no discernible difference. Life and death are unquantifiable abstracts. Why should I be concerned?

I have no idea what happened between the two of them, but the fact is that by his own admission, Leyritz has no money and he and his kids are living off of his wife’s income. So tell me again why he would be evicting her?

Snicker. Deriving from the first comment, you need to elevate your blog by predicting which current ballplayers will end up similarly to Leyritz. Perhaps you can start by examining the Cardinals roster for likely suspects.

how come Leyritz is facing 10 years in prison, while Donte Stallworth was able to plead down to 30 days in jail and house arrest?  Just curious.

@Ern:  easy.  Stallworth is still able to make millions of dollars per year, and can therefore buy his way out of trouble.  Leyritz is (obviously) in financial hardships, so he is subject to the justice system like us po’ foke.

I sense another Ken Caminiti Calamity on the way. This guy can’t having many ticks left on his clock if he keeps living like this.
