Over the weekend, David Appelman added more WPA stats to the Fangraphs site. He’s now got WPA for all players from 1974 to 1988. Hopefully, the ’90’s will be filled in soon. Thanks, David!

Joe Posnanski reports on Brian Bannister’s fine game last night, as well as the usual sidebars. Seriously, how can you not root for a pitcher who says “Just had to let my Babip regress before I started dealing again.”????

BR’s Stat of the Day blog reports that the A’s may be setting new records by batting catcher Kurt Suzuki in the leadoff position.

Jon Hale takes a look at Troy Percival’s blown save from last night, using Pitchf/x data. High fastballs and flat changeups, oy!

Jeff Sullivan pens a ode to his lovable losers, the Seattle Mariners. Reminds me of how the Mets in the early ’60’s could inspire similar poetry.

Old friend Robert Dudek wonders about J.P. Ricciardi’s legacy in Toronto (not that he’s about to leave). Sure to be an interesting discussion from the thoughtful folks at Batters Box.

Ken Rosenthal takes a look at Troy Percival’s newest pitch. It’s not everyday that a 38 year-old learns a new changeup. But “learned a new pitch” ranks right up there with “Lasik surgery”, “finally healthy,” and “best shape of my life” as fake-o excuses for altered performance. What do the data say? According to his […]

MetsGeek has a nice little post about Mike Pelfrey and his lack of anything besides a fastball.

Hat tip to Stephen Kersey of Knuckle Curve for providing us with Cynthia Rodriguez’s entertaining description of her husband’s experience as she was in labor. I’m not sure you can draw a correlation between this and his prolific postseason downers, but it’s a funny read nonetheless.
