As the Yankees ponder lowering some ticket prices, the Giants actually do it: The Giants announced deeply discounted tickets for the coming April 27-29 series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. I’m sure the team has plenty of rationales for slashing ticket prices for one of the most desirable series of the year — and not […]

I felt that the $500 fine levied on Elijah Dukes for being a couple of minutes late to Saturday’s game against the Marlins as a result of signing autographs for Little Leaguers was pretty lame. Sure, Dukes technically broke a rule, and sure he’s a guy you want to give a shorter leash than many, […]

Wallace Mattews pens a nasty-gram to Jason Giambi with the headline “Giambi took a lot more than he ever gave.” I guess that makes him the anti-Mandy: Technically, the signing of Mike Mussina to a six-year, $88.5-million deal after the 2000 Series may have been the first shot, but with the Giambi signing, The Boss […]

Jason has a mega-post on Yankee Stadium, with a very savvy observation about all those empty seats I mentioned on Sunday: even the high rollers who didn’t get laid off may have a strong incentive to avoid the high-rent district: A few weeks back, we went to a friend’s house for an afternoon. While watching […]

In his 37th and final season as a big league GM, did The Mahatma go out with a bang, or a whimper?

They’re too experienced and professional to actually get into a proper pissing match, but I kinda wish this little nothing of an exchange would turn into one. For one thing, it would make the Cubs-Cardinals rivalry even more interesting. For another, it would make me like Lou Piniella even more than I do. I think […]

Every year you see some unlikely guy break out to a fast start on the power of pitchers’ relative indifference and a lot of lucky guesses. Guys who anyone who watches this game even a little bit can tell you are going to crash to Earth, or at the very least return to being pedestrian, […]

I love Posnanski as much as the next guy and look forward to reading whatever he writes about the latest Kyle Farnsworth disaster, but his colleague Sam Mellinger has probably nailed it as well as it can be nailed. After reviewing the moves up to that point in the game, Sam lays out the menu […]

After a hiatus, Lost in Transactions is back. This week had plenty of changes, from demotions to trades to injuries. Lastings Milledge and Blake DeWitt were (justifiably?) demoted to Triple-A while hot Rangers prospect Derek Holland landed in the bigs.

An expected but nonetheless embarrassing development at Yankee Stadium, as most of the good seats go unused. Someone who is better than me at math needs to estimate whether those seats, priced-lower, but full of beer-and-souvenir-buying fans would actually be a better financial bet for the Yankees.
