The latest in the business of baseball.

Wallace Mattews pens a nasty-gram to Jason Giambi with the headline “Giambi took a lot more than he ever gave.” I guess that makes him the anti-Mandy: Technically, the signing of Mike Mussina to a six-year, $88.5-million deal after the 2000 Series may have been the first shot, but with the Giambi signing, The Boss […]

Jason has a mega-post on Yankee Stadium, with a very savvy observation about all those empty seats I mentioned on Sunday: even the high rollers who didn’t get laid off may have a strong incentive to avoid the high-rent district: A few weeks back, we went to a friend’s house for an afternoon. While watching […]

After a hiatus, Lost in Transactions is back. This week had plenty of changes, from demotions to trades to injuries. Lastings Milledge and Blake DeWitt were (justifiably?) demoted to Triple-A while hot Rangers prospect Derek Holland landed in the bigs.

An expected but nonetheless embarrassing development at Yankee Stadium, as most of the good seats go unused. Someone who is better than me at math needs to estimate whether those seats, priced-lower, but full of beer-and-souvenir-buying fans would actually be a better financial bet for the Yankees.

Given the heat seeking missile that Matt Taibbi sends up Brian Cashman’s rear with this article in the May issue of Men’s Journal, I can only assume that Cashman ran over Taibbi’s dog and slept with his wife. Or vice-versa. Or maybe he had a threesome with them and then ran them both over: . […]

Art broker Tracie Speca has been working 16-hour days for the past six weeks to install 1,300 vintage photographs worth a total of at least $5 million in the stadium’s clubs, hallways and restaurants. Ms. Speca saved whimsical images for […]

Well, maybe it’s not official yet, but they and the Mets have an official just about everything else: Official Automobile Classified Company: Autotrader.com Official Supermarket Retailer: Stop & Shop Official Rail Fare: Amtrak Official Non-Dairy Creamer: Nestlé Coffee-Mate Official Deli Meat: Boar’s Head Official Pudding: Kozy Shack Official Non-Kosher Hot Dog & French Fry: Nathan’s […]

Ron Rollins was reading ShysterBall — and yelling at me for saying statheady things — way back in early 2007. Back then the only other regular readers were my mom and the people Googling pictures of Alyssa Milano. The Googlers soon realized that there was nothin’ good here, and even my mom eventually gave up, […]

This is a link to the baseball page at the New York Times. Today the top nine (9) stories are about the new stadiums stadia in New York. I don’t think V-J Day got this kind of coverage. My favorite one is “Two New Baseball Palaces, One Stoic, One Scrappy.” How can a building be […]
